Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode last month launched a cleaner Lagos initiatives, the
initiative is to ensure Lagos becomes cleaner and there are more private owners
invited into the Waste Disposing Sector.
Even though
a cleaner Lagos initiative was launched, the state of Lagos now remains an eye
sour to residence. “People are dumping refuse everywhere, it is like there is
no longer Lawma in Lagos” said Mr Akpan a shop owner in Ogba.
In an
interview with a health specialist Mr Tomiwa Ajeigbe who said the way people
are dumping refuse everywhere can lead to the emergence and spread of diseases
in Lagos.
He urges
people to have patience and wait for Lawma to throw their dirt away rather than
dumping it on the street or road sides.

Ajeigbe said
dumping of refuse on the street especially during this raining season can lead
to dirt blocking the gutters and thereby causing flood. Flood can destroy
people’s houses and wash away their properties.
Mrs Asama
Ekaitte a trader in Ogba Market said Lagos was cleaner during the time of Governor
Fashola than it is now. “Every Thursday morning we carry out environmental in
the market and the Lawma people are always waiting to get the dirt after we are
through”. She said the sanitation is still on-going till date but it is unlike
before.
She
therefore urged Governor Ambode to look into the matter and ensure Lawma and
PSP are efficient in the execution of their job to prevent people resulting to
dumping waste on the road side.
